This research super-cluster employs a transamerican approach and seeks ways to concretely connect scholarship and pedagogy with political struggles. We focus on the interdisciplinary field of Estudios culturales en las Américas, and specifically on contemporary critical debates, methodologies, and research by scholars working in the humanities and social sciences.
In the traditions of Chican@, Latin@, and Latin American cultural studies, this cluster focuses on issues of political expediency and the coloniality of power and knowledge within the cultural sphere. Areas of analysis include migration, subaltern knowledges, diasporas, globalization, translation, multilingualism, performance, memory, iconography, cultural industries, and cultural policy.
